INTERPOL

Agenda Item

• Enhancing International Collaboration to Combat Transnational Terrorism and Radicalization

The International Criminal Police Organization – INTERPOL, commonly known as Interpol, is an international organization that facilitates worldwide police cooperation and crime control. It is the world’s largest international police organization. It is headquartered in Lyon, France, with seven regional bureaus worldwide, and a National Central Bureau in all 196 member states.
The organization today known as Interpol was founded on 7 September 1923 at the close of a five-day International Police Congress in Vienna as the International Criminal Police Commission (ICPC); it adopted many of its current duties throughout the 1930s. After coming under Nazi control in 1938, the agency had its headquarters in the same building as the Gestapo. It was effectively stagnant until the end of World War II.In 1956, the ICPC adopted a new constitution and the name Interpol, derived from its telegraphic address used since 1946.
In an increasingly interconnected world, transnational terrorism and radicalization pose significant threats to global security. Criminal networks exploit borders, digital platforms, and international financial systems, making it imperative for nations to strengthen cooperation in counterterrorism efforts. INTERPOL, as the world’s largest international police organization, plays a crucial role in facilitating intelligence sharing, operational coordination, and capacity-building among member states. However, effectively addressing these evolving threats requires greater commitment from international stakeholders. Strengthening legal frameworks, harmonizing counterterrorism policies, and fostering trust-based partnerships are essential to ensuring a unified and effective response. By enhancing international collaboration, INTERPOL aims to create a safer world, free from the dangers of terrorism and radicalization.
Last but not least, there will be 18 delegates who are going to represent 18 different countries. Our main agenda item is going to be enhancing international collaboration to combat transnational terrorism and radicalization. So we are going to take precautions and take care of the problem as much as we can.
