The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental transnational military alliance of 32 member states. Established in the aftermath of World War II, the organization implements the North Atlantic Treaty, signed in Washington, D.C., on 4 April 1949. NATO is a collective security system: its independent member states agree to defend each other against attacks by third parties. During the Cold War, NATO operated as a check on the threat posed by the Soviet Union. The alliance remained in place after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact, and has been involved in military operations in the Balkans, the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa.
As the Secretariat we would like to consider NATO’s Strategic Stance Amid the Energy Crisis and Rising Regional Tensions.
First and foremost, NATO has to change some policies for a better defence system. Because the Russian Federation – Ukraine War is escalating so rapidly. This is a major threat to Europe and in the long term to the United States. That’s why NATO is focusing on the motto which is “Freedom does not come free.” So our delegates are going to talk about “Defence Production” and “Energy Crisis”.
Secondly, even though it is not a great issue for now, we have to take some precautions on the Aegean Sea. Two major powers in the region (Türkiye and Greece) have been insulting and talking about each other whenever there is a chance. We are aware of the fact that two countries are working on gradually normalizing the policies but we are not sure about what the future has for us. Aegean Sea and Aegean Islands Policies have to be reviewed as soon as possible.
Last but not least, we are considering welcoming 22 delegates as Ministers of Foreign Affairs in our committee. 22 Ministers from 22 different countries are going to gather for the agenda item. Also we are going to support the committee with maps and additional crises.
